Some Closet Poetry

This is just a smattering of my poetry..
a bit of this and a bit of that.

On a cold winter's day
A young lady takes a stray.
She feeds and clothes and makes some room
Darkness there; there is much gloom.
The stray begins to make his home
Does not go far; never roams.
To keep an eye on what on what he's claimed
A spirit that he thinks he's tamed.
He takes over as Lord and Master
And as time goes, he becomes nastier.
He now say that he owns her
For eternity, forever.
And if she tries to get away
He'll hunt her down; she's gone astray.
As she looks back to when they met
It was a meeting she regrets.
Her spirit grows; she becomes strong
Her thoughts they yearn; her freedom longs.
And on a fateful winter's day
She takes a chance and steals away.
And when she thinks that she is safe
She happens on a man with knife.
"I said to you, you weren't to leave,
and now your family, they will grieve."

He waves the knife above her head
He stabs and stabs 'till she lays dead.
And on a cold winter's day
Another woman takes a stray.

My baby's growing up
In an awfully big way.
My baby's growing up
had his first date today.
My baby's growing up
rushing it as fast as he can.
My baby grew up
became a very big man.

My man is growing older
has children of his own.
My man is growing older
and now I am alone.
My man is growing older
his children growing fast.
My man is growing older
his youth it did not last.

My man he is a grampie
and he remembers me.
My man he is a grampie
my only legacy.
My man he is a grampie
his youth has now slipped by.
My man is now my baby
in Heaven by my side.

Rain pouring down today
The sea it crashes, sea salt spray
The wind high in high, the trees they bend
She stands and waits for her special friend.

The waves are high with large white tips
The gulls dare not venture to take trips
And at the dock down by the end
She stands and waits for her special friend.

A voice comes yelling from the town
They think the ship has gone down
The message from a boat did send
She stands still waiting for her friend.

She stands there waiting all alone
With love and hope that he'll come home
The light begins to fade away
and on the dock, she will stay.

As sun's bright light begins a new
She's still there; she feels it's soon
As days begin to pass on by
She still stands and now she cries.

And when dark falls over the land
A voice it whispers "take my hand"
And when she does, she knows she's died
She meets her loved on in the sky.

Some say that if they look to sea
Two people close as their souls leave
To rest in peace for eternity
Their souls in Heaven peacefully.

The tempation of love
lures us into its grasps
as we run towards it
like a moth and a bright light.

We forget of times scorned
and try once again
to grasp at happiness
with a vigor only love can explain.

For if we learned the first time around
that love is not always rosey
we may never love anyone
but ourselves.

Yet we continue to try
to find that special someone
we know that exists
but like a puzzle,

Like a maze
shall we find the cenotaur
or will we find the centre
where all the riches are.

The riches of our heart.
when it joins another
and becomes
one.

Rest peacefully young one because you can
You have not experienced the cruelty of life:
the bullies who will leave you battered and bruised.
If only I could protect you -- but I know
I would suffocate your growth...
I have to be cruel to be kind. That is life.

I feel so helpless watching you flail
like a dove with a broken wing.
Your problems are like miniature typhoons
threatening to overcome you -- but I mustn't intervene.
You must learn the harshness of reality. That is life.

Rest peacefully young one because you can
for soon you won't be able to.
Long will fairy tales fade away
leaving you naked to the elements of life.
Sadly, I must watch you learn from the mistakes I made.
"You cannot put an old head on young shoulders,"
my father used to say..... Experience is life.
